  • 1. What is Postlets?

Postlets is a real estate classified listing creation and distribution platform owned and operated by Zillow. Agents, property managers, and landlords, as well as sellers/FSBOers, can create a property listing just once, and we'll help you distribute it to many of the leading classifieds sites, search, and social media sites. We'll also host a dedicated landing page on our site and give you additional tools such as widgets and a personal Gallery to help you gain even more exposure.

  • 2. How do I sign up?

Go to the signup page, provide your email address and password. You must also confirm that you have read and accept the terms of use. After that, you should be all set to start your first Postlet.

  • 3. How much does it cost?

Postlets is free. You can create as many listings as you like and use all of the distribution tools.

Postlets gives you a single-property website. Among other things, each website has a multi- or single-page layout, includes unlimited photos, embeds a slideshow viewer, and shows no 3rd party advertising.

  • 4. Is Postlets affiliated with Craigslist or any of the other listed sites?

Postlets is only affiliated with HotPads and Zillow, who acquired Postlets in April 2011. Other than that, Postlets is not affiliated with any other classifieds aggregators where our listings appear. This also means we do not have any visibility or interface into their respective systems.

  • 5. I forgot my password. What can I do?

If you forgot your password, go to the login assistance page. After providing either the email address or the username you signed up with, you'll be emailed a temporary password for accessing your account. After you log in, you can then change your password by clicking on the My Account link at the top of page and editing your contact info.

If you don't receive an email from us within a couple of minutes, please check your "bulk" or "spam" email folders. Sometimes email filters incorrectly tag our valid emails as spam. If you cannot find your password email in those folders, it's possible your mail server blocked it before it was even delivered to your personal email inbox. In that case, please contact us.

  • 6. What is a Gallery?

A Gallery is a custom-branded webpage to showcase all of your listings. You'll be able to customize it with a company logo, a personalized URL and an About Me page where you can describe your services and upload a personal photo. It also includes a map that displays the location of your mappable listings.

  • 7. How do I create a Gallery?

You can create your Gallery from the Gallery Settings page. Simply enter the required information to activate your Gallery.

When creating your Gallery, the Gallery personalized URL is anything you want it to be. For example, you could choose "agentjane" and your Gallery URL would be agentjane.postlets.com. You can change your URL at anytime as long as another user has not claimed your desired URL.

  • 8. How do I create a Postlet?

To get started, first log in from the sign in page using the username/email address and password you chose during the signup process (if you forgot either of these, go to the login assistance page). Then hover over the "Create a Postlet" button in the top right corner. You'll be directed to a page where you can begin filling out the unit details.

  • 9. Why do I have to verify my phone number?

As of March 6th, 2012, we now require users for all new Postlets and activating draft Postlets and renewing expired Postlets to verify the phone number associated with the Postlet. We added this verification process to help reduce scam listings created on the site.

We do understand this is a hassle for our legitimate users, but hope everybody can also understand the need for additional measures against fraud.

  • 10.  What phone number am I verifying and do I need to do this for every Postlet?

The phone number you are required to verify is the number currently entered and displayed on the Postlet you are creating or trying to activate. Please note that this number may be different than the one under your profile on My Account page and updating that phone number will not update your Postlet phone number.

Any new phone numbers entered on your Postlet(s) will also need to be verified. However, once you've verified a phone number you won't need to verify it again for any other Postlets you use it on.

The phone number you are verifying cannot be a managed/auto-responder/phone-bank number. You will need to be able to answer the call or read the text message to use the verification code we send to verify your number. Some types of phone numbers are not accepted. Please contact us if you need assistance verifying your number.

  • 11.  What's the difference between draft and active modes?

A draft Postlet is a Postlet that is still a work in progress, while an active Postlet is one that is published and shared with syndication partners. You can save your Postlet in draft mode if it's incomplete or if you want to stage it, such as if you are planning on adding photos later. Once it's ready to go live, simply activate it from your My Postlets page or from the top of the Postlet overview page.

  • 12.  How do I activate my Postlet from draft?

You can activate your Postlet from your My Postlets page or by clicking on the Activate Postlet button at the top right of the Postlet overview page. All of your Postlets (except for those you have deleted) will remain manageable from your My Postlets page.

  • 13.  What do I do with the HTML code?

You can use the HTML code on any site that accepts and processes HTML such as Craigslist. You will need to first create a post on each respective site and then copy the HTML code we provide and paste it directly into the ad description.

Please see the HTML instructions page for step-by-step instructions on manually copying/pasting into Craigslist. You can always retrieve the HTML for an active Postlet without needing to recreate your Postlet by visiting the Promote Postlet tab for that Postlet.

  • 14.  What is Postlets MINI?

Postlets MINI is a "widget" of your listing. You can embed the code in your blog (e.g. Blogger, Wordpress) or on your own website to display a miniature version of your listing. There are three different sizes and each links back to the full-sized listing. MINIS are available for real estate for sale and for rent Postlets.

You can find the code to copy and paste into your blog or website, along with the HTML for your Postlet, on the Postlet Promote tab for that Postlet.

  • 15.  How do I upload my photos?

After you've created your Postlet, go to the Postlet's Photos & Media tab. On this tab you will be able to select which photos you want to upload and even drag & drop photos from any folder on your computer.

  • 16. Do the photos need to be a certain format and size?

Yes, we only accept .jpg, .bmp, .png, .gif, and .tiff files. To find out if your photos meet the criteria, right-click (ctrl-click on Macs) on the file and select Properties. There are no size restrictions on photos you upload.

  • 17. Where can I automatically syndicate my Postlet?

Your listings will be automatically distributed to Zillow, Yahoo! and HotPads. In addition, you have the option of automatically submitting your listings to any/all of our syndication partners depending on the listing category and location. You can change the default syndication settings for all future Postlets through your My Account settings.

  • 18. I can't find my listing on a particular site. What can I do to find it?

Since we don't have visibility into third party systems, we cannot confirm that every listing was published. It can sometimes be tricky to isolate your listings, but the best way is to search for unique identifiers (part of the listing subtitle, name, address, etc.), and don't forget to filter on attributes such as number of bedrooms or bathrooms, on the respective third party sites.

Note: Syndication is not immediate. It can take 24 to 48 hours for a Postlet to appear on the other sites. If you have incomplete or inaccurate information (e.g. you don't include the full address), your listing may not be processed by our syndication partners. If your listings are also syndicated from another source, that may also interfere with syndication from Postlets.com.

  • 19. Will my Postlet be automatically submitted to Craigslist?

No. Craigslist prohibits "posting agents" to post on behalf of others. You will need to manually create a Craigslist post and copy and paste the provided HTML code into the description box.

  • 20. How do I create a Craigslist post?

Once you've activated your Postlet you will see a button labeled Post to Craigslist on the Promote Postlet tab. Clicking this link will send you directly to Craigslist. You will need to enter some basic information first and then manually copy and paste the provided HTML into the posting description box to get your Postlet onto Craigslist. You will still need to go through the standard posting process.

Craigslist will send you an email to activate and manage your post, as usual. Hold onto this so that you can later edit/delete your post.

If your Postlet is incomplete or you choose to post to Craigslist later, you can always access the HTML by simply clicking on the Postlet from the My Postlets page and navigating to the Promote Postlet tab.

Note: If you experience problems with the button, check to see if you have a pop-up blocker enabled. If so, turn it off (usually in your Google or Yahoo toolbar). If this doesn't work, you can initiate a post by going directly to the Craigslist site. Please see the Craigslist instructions page for step-by-step instructions.

  • 21. Why does my Postlet appear different on Craigslist?

Due to the restrictions on the code and content permitted on Craigslist, the HTML version will display a bit differently than what you see on Postlets.com. Furthermore, due to changes Craigslist made in November 2013, users will have to use the Craigslist photo uploader in order to add photos to their Craigslist posts.

  • 22. What do I need to know about Craigslist's terms of use?

If you use Postlets to post on Craigslist, you must read and abide by the Craigslist terms of use. Please familiarize yourself with what is and what is not acceptable (pay close attention to section 7 on Conduct). Postlets strives to abide by both the letter and spirit of the Craigslist terms of use and to be a good community citizen, and we hope our users will do the same.

  • 23. How do I edit my Postlet?

You can edit any of your Postlets by clicking on the Postlet on your My Postlets page. Photos may be added or edited by going to the Photos & Media tab.

  • 24. How do I expire/delete/renew my Postlet?

You can deactivate your Postlet by clicking on Expire on the My Postlets page or by using the button at the top right of the Postlet overview page. Expired Postlets will be archived on your My Postlets page and can be edited and/or renewed at any time. When you expire a Postlet, it will no longer be syndicated to partner sites, but it may take 48 hours or more to be removed from those sites.

To permanently delete your Postlet, click on Delete Postlet at the bottom of the Postlet's left-hand navigation bar.

To renew your Postlet for an additional 30 days (60 days for for sale Postlets), by clicking on Renew on the My Postlets page or by using the button at the top right of the Postlet overview page. You can renew your listing is often as you like.

Note: You will need to renew/repost your post on Craigslist separately by repeating the post to Craigslist procedure.

  • 25. What is the difference between expiring and deleting my Postlet?

Expiring your Postlet deactivates it so it will no longer syndicate to partner sites. An expired Postlet remains in your account and you are able to edit and/or renew it at any time.

Deleting a Postlet permanently removes it from your account.

If you plan on working with this Postlet in the future, we recommend expiring it rather than deleting it.

Note: Whether you expire or delete your Postlet, it may take 48 hours or more for the Postlet to be removed from partner sites and you will have to log into your Craigslist account to remove it on Craigslist.

  • 26. When will my Postlet expire?

Postlets will remain active on the Postlets site for 60 days for sale Postlets and 30 days for rentals Postlets from the date it was created. Note that expiration on the Postlets site is independent of expiration of any listings you create on Craigslist. When you renew a Postlet it will be reset to expire in 30 days (or 60 days for for sale Postlets) from the day you renew it.
